Your body converts food and air to energy in your cells and in the process, your cells kick out some pretty nasty exhaust commonly known as free radicals. These are oxygen atoms and molecules containing oxygen that are missing an electron – causing them to “stick” where they don’t belong and creating issues with your cells. Free radicals also known as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are believed to be the cause of many human diseases including heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s, cancer and more.

Free radicals are also caused by smoke, pollution, poor diet, ultraviolet light, etc. and, making matters worse, free radicals create additional free radicals. The numbers are somewhat overwhelming with over 7 trillion free radicals produced every second.

Antioxidants work by absorbing free radicals, rendering them harmless. Specifically, they have a “space” within their makeup that attracts and accepts sticky oxygen atoms and molecules with solo electrons.
